Kelly Clampitt

Originally from Oklahoma and transplanted to the Los Angeles area, Kelly graduated from Otis Parsons School of Art and Design Los Angeles with a BA in fine art photography in 1987.  She worked as a photographer in the outdoor industry and freelanced through 2010 before moving to Ashe County, NC to “live in the woods”. Excited to be part of a smaller community and to focus on her personal work, Kelly’s work runs the gamut of exotic botanical shots, unusual landscapes, fantastical photomontage, intimate portraiture, raw documentary photography, and occasional mixed media. Kelly is a member of the Catchlight Photography Gallery in West Jefferson, NC and a board member serving on the gallery committee at the Ashe County Art’s Council; other venues include, The New River Visitor’s Center, Ashe County Library, Bohemia Coffee Shop West Jefferson, Boondocks Brewery of WJ, The Ashe Arts Council, Wilkesboro Art Gallery, and numerous arts and crafts festivals. Kelly received the “Best in Show Award” at the 2015 Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition and Exhibit at The Turchin Center in Boone, NC. 

Artist Statement

When it comes to art....I don’t have many rules....I am not a purist of anything but what makes me happy and what I think looks interesting to me.  I could spend the better part of any day walking in the woods searching for morels, getting lost in the stream beds, and dreaming into the mossy earth.  I believe it is an art to call attention to what is so often overlooked...be it silly politics or an incredible unseen eft slinking through the grass. 

Archival Printing

Most of the prints here today I have printed myself on Hanemuhle Photo Rag paper with Pigment inks on an Epson 2200.  The archival prints with proper care will last for many decades, beyond our lifetime.  Keep from direct sunlight, moisture, or sealed inside their acid free bags until framed.
